FIVE BUCK CHALLENGE!

The Swanson Family Needs Your Help!

Last week my son Cristiano came home from school and told me, "Joe and Charlotte's house burned down."  Joe and Charlotte are twins in his Fifth Grade class at Boulder Creek Elementary School and I have known them since they were in the First Grade. On Thursday, September 13th, 2012 a raging house fire left Charlotte, Joe and their dad Mike homeless and without any possessions. This breaks my heart.

The family has a place to stay for four weeks thanks to Valley Churches United Missions.  After that, they are on their own.  Right now the family does not have enough clothing and with winter approaching I am asking the community to please help this family in any way that they can.  Right now they are trying to take care of their immediate basic needs.  The next few weeks will pass quickly and the family will need to find a new place to live... and furnish their new home as well.

Cristiano and I had a talk last night-just wondering what else we could do. We came up with the FIVE BUCK CHALLENGE. Many people can spare $5 without it creating a hardship. If we can get just 200 people to donate $5 each, we could raise $1000 to help this family get back on their feet! Who knows? Maybe we could raise more. I feel like we have to try.  Who's game!?

If you would like to make a donation to the Swanson Family please click the PayPal link above.
Thank you SO MUCH for being a supportive member of our community!

OCTOBER 2, 2012:
Swanson Family Update! Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of so many people (thank you all!) the Swansons have enough clothes! The storage place in Scotts Valley behind Kmart as donated three months of free storage so that the family can start gathering donations to put their life back together. We have collected just over $1000.00 AND because news of this challenge has really spread, some large donations were made through Valley Churches! I talked to Mike Swanson last week and he could not contain his excitement... The money we have raised will be used to get him and his children into a home! I can't thank you all enough for stepping forward to help a family in need. Please know that they are extremely grateful.

OCTOBER 7, 2012:
UPDATE!! The Swanson Family has found a place to live! On October 14th they will move out of their temporary housing situation and will move into a permanent residence! They found a place in Boulder Creek close to the school and it sounds like a good situation for the family. Mike again expressed his gratitude tonight. He is so gratefu to all of the people who have come together to help he and his kids put their lives back together.

OCTOBER 14, 2012:
Well, the Swanson Family moved today so I want to send a huge THANK YOU to all of you wonderful, kind people! Without your help the Swanson's wouldn't be in the stable position that they currently find themselves in. I'm so glad to be a small part of a large group of people that came together to create positive change in our community. ♥

Thanks again!
